Spiders and insects do have their own
beauty to those who keep them as a pet, although not suited to everyone they
are quite pets which do not make too much mess and who do not take up a great
deal of room.
The praying mantis, stick insect, tarantula and land snails are
all popular choices when keeping spiders and insects in the home. When going
into this as a hobbyist then very often there are starter packs, these will
usually consist of a cage, heating, lighting, book and food to get you started
and this an excellent way to begin keeping spiders and insects as pets. While
they cannot be petted as such they are intriguing to watch.
When it comes to
feeding then this will vary dependent on the species you wish to keep, however
the majority of reptiles and insects will eat live food. This is sometimes not
for the faint at heart when you consider that the majority of snakes eat mice,
rats and other insects.
Studying the reptile or insect’s diet and needs are essential before rushing out to buy as it is with any other pet. The majority of spiders and insects will live quite happily in a tank or vivarium and you would have to consider the species and its natural environment when decorating the vivarium.
